I'm building rods with the Morgan hand mill and even Tom Morgan says "sawed strips work great on the mill". Does someone just need bamboo thats really straight for it to work? what to look for? I really don't care about grain run-out but if i could get strips straight by doing this I'm thinking of building a gang-saw.

When using the Tom Morgan Hand Mill you do not need to spend so much time for sharpening the blades, only for the rough planing if not using a cutter. Once the hand mill is adjusted and the stop position locked it goes very fast to produce strips. With the hand mill the challenge is gone - every strip will be perfect.
